Visit statistics
We count visits with Umami, running on our own server in the EU
(Helsinki, Finland). For each page view it records the page (voting-room names are never sent:
every room page is counted as just /room), the referring site, and your country, region
and city, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language.
Your IP address is not stored in the database, and the statistics server keeps no access logs. It is used only while the request is handled, to work out the location and an anonymous visit identifier (a one-way hash of the IP address and browser details).
Nothing is written to your device: no cookies, and the tracker only reads one localStorage key,
umami.disabled. (The app's own localStorage is described below.) The statistics are not
linked to who you are, you are not followed across other sites, and nothing is passed on to anyone.
If your browser sends Do Not Track, nothing is counted.
Voting rooms
- Your browser's localStorage holds, so you can come back to a room: your display name, avatar and a random session id (the session expires after 30 days), and the name of the last room you entered. For a moment it also holds a room password you typed while joining, the room you were just in, and the reason you were sent back to the join page (for example a refused join); these are removed as soon as they are read. You can remove everything by clearing the site's data in your browser. Your name and avatar are sent only to the room you join.
- The room itself — people, avatars, votes, the room password — lives only in the server's memory. It is not written to disk and is gone when the room empties or the server restarts.
- The server's log lists room events with room and display names (for example "room created"). It holds no votes, and no IP addresses. The web server in front of it keeps standard access logs (IP address and requested address), rotated away after 14 days.
- The page font is loaded from Google Fonts, so Google sees your IP address when it is fetched.
